The title is essentially the whole post.
The game boiled down to the Railers having a 2-1 lead and an extended third-period five-on-three power play sandwiched by some five on four power play time and they managed, by the ECHL’s count, four shots on goal. Only two of those were determined to be quality chances. Worcester went 92 seconds of five-on-three power play time without a shot on goal.
There’s a reason why fans yell “shoot” during power plays, it’s because it seems that oftentimes it doesn’t occur to players to actually do that.
Like last year’s playoff collapse, this is a movie I’ve seen lots of times before in Worcester hockey history.
And it did.
But I’m sure those two lost points won’t be important at all.
GAME NOTES
Scratches for the Railers were Josh Boyko, Todd Goehring (IR/unknown), Artyom Kulakov (unavailable), Christian Krygier (IR/upper body), Tristan Lennox (IR/lower body), Jack Quinlivan (IR/lower body), and Quinn Ryan (upper body). Kaden Fulcher was the backup goaltender. On Sunday morning the Railers released Ross Olsson, confirming this writer’s thoughts the signing was not meant to be permanent. With no healthy scratches, the Railers played with only 16 skaters, one under the ECHL limit.
The three stars of the game were:
1. MNE – 23 Alex Kile
2. MNE – 1 Brad Arvanitis
3. MNE – 7 Owen Pederson
The 210Sports Player of the Game was the 17th skater the Railers didn’t dress.
