As we pass the ECHL’s trade deadline it’s time to take another look at how some current and former Worcester pro players are doing statistically during the 2023-2024 season. For the North American pro leagues, any player in their league’s top 20 gets a mention. For the European leagues, it’s the top ten. Goaltenders are listed only if they meet their league’s qualifying minimums.
All of the stats and rankings are as of March 21st.
For the NHL we have just two entries, with Winnipeg’s Dylan DeMelo having the second-best rating in the league at plus-38. Future Hockey Hall of Fame member Joe Pavelski makes the list with his ten power play goal tying for 20th.
It’s just two goaltenders making the posting in the AHL, with Troy Grosenick still chugging along with 16 wins for Milwaukee, tying for 16th in the league. Bridgeport’s Jakub Skarek gets about as close to a default entry as you can, with his 30 games played tied for 17th in the AHL.
In the ECHL only three current Railers skaters make the listing as Blade Jenkins, Anthony Repaci, and Ashton Calder all tie for 13th in the league with two shorthanded goals. Thirty players have that many in the ECHL, including Maine’s Jimmy Lambert, Tulsa’s Eddie Matsushima, and Cincinnati’s Lincoln Griffin. Matsushima also has seven game-winning goals, tying for 12th.
To round out the current Railers making the posting is goaltender John Muse, whose 2.70 goals against average and .914 save percentage both rank 11th in the league. His two shutouts tie for sixth.
Kansas City’s Jacob Hayhurst hits the posting four times, with his 28 goals tying for eighth and his 62 points tying for 12th. Hayhurst’s plus-23 rating ties for 11th and his six game-winners tie for fifth. Idaho’s Wade Murphy gets three entries with his 56 points tying for 18th, his plus-28 rating landing him in fourth, and his five game-winning goals earning a tie for 12th.
Collin Adams has two top-tens with Kalamazoo to his credit, with his six game-winners tying for sixth and his two overtime goals tying for second. Jacksonville’s Ivan Chukarov‘s plus-21 rating ties for 19th in the ECHL, and Garet Hunt‘s 116 penalty minutes land him in 15th place.
Only one skater makes the SPHL list with Fayetteville’s Tim Faulkner landing in the 11th spot with 104 penalty minutes.
For SPHL goaltenders, the recently released Cole Ceci will now return to Evansville, where his 12 wins put him in the eighth spot, his two shutouts tie for fifth, a 2.48 goals against average lands him in fourth, and his .923 save percentage is third best. Quad City’s Brent Moran also gets four entries, with his 18 wins and .920 save percentage putting him in fourth, his three shutouts tying for second, and his 2.85 goals against placing eighth.
Heading overseas, Konrad Abeltshauser leads the DEL with a plus-30 rating. Michael Connolly ties for third in that league with 34 assists and his 45 points tie for ninth. Over in the Erste Liga Yanick Turcotte‘s 140 penalty minutes leads the league, and in France’s Ligue Magnus Brodie Reid ties for second with 23 goals.
Mitchell Balmas leads the EIHL with 58 points, and his 38 assists rank second. Daniel Ciampini has 30 EIHL helpers, tying for seventh, and 46 total points, tying for tenth. Goaltender Eamon McAdam gets four mentions for the league, with his 2.51 goals against and .919 save percentage both earning the fifth spot. His 14 wins rank eighth, and his two shutouts are fourth-best in the EIHL.
The last skater making the posting is Nikolay Goldobin, who ranks second in the KHL with 37 goals and 78 points. His 41 assists land him in the fifth spot. If you’re new to Worcester hockey, you might want to check out why many Worcester fans have a soft spot for Goldobin.
For the goaltenders, Harri Sateri ranks seventh in Switzerland’s NL with a 2.29 goals against average. His .919 save percentage ties for ninth, his 23 wins rank third, and his five shutouts are second-best. Linus Soderstrom also gets four mentions in Sweden’s SHL as his 23 wins rank second, his 2.03 goals against ties for fifth, and his .913 save percentage and three shutouts each tie for seventh.
Evan Buitenhuis leads the ICEHL with 23 wins, with his 2.49 goals against landing him in the league’s seventh spot and his .913 save percentage is 13th best.
