The Worcester Bravehearts began their week with a Tuesday game at Fitton Field against the Vermont Lake Monsters, and despite a mid-innings comeback to tie the score they couldn’t get over completely over the hump and drop a 5-3 contest. Down 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh WooBall tied it on a Shea Grady RBI single and then a two-run single from Max DAlessandro. Vermont would go on to score runs in the eighth and ninth for the win.
Highlights/Interviews
Tuesday was a rematch, and the game was suspended due to rain with Bravehearts leading 5-4 in the top of the 3rd inning. The Lake Monsters do not have another trip to Worcester scheduled, but the Bravehearts do play at Vermont with three games scheduled over two days in late July.
It was off to Holman Stadium in Nashua Thursday for a matchup against the Silver Knights, and Worcester dug a hole too deep to climb out of early on and would end up losing 7-3. Down 4-0 entering the third the Bravehearts would get within one on a run off a passed ball and a two-run single from Shea Grady. But Nashua would get those three runs back in the home half to cap the scoring.
The less said about Worcester’s 16-0 loss to Norwich Friday night at Fitton Field, the better.
Saturday night looked better on the scoreboard but may have been worse as WooBall was no-hit by the Sea Unicorns in Norwich 3-1. Dylan LaPointe scored the Bravehearts’ only run in the sixth inning after being hit by a pitch, taking second and third on an infield error, and scoring on Wyatt Hoffman‘s sacrifice fly.
Westfield came to town Sunday as the Bravehearts were looking for a win to salvage the week, and it took until the bottom of the ninth inning until WooBall was finally able to put one on the win column with an 8-7 walk-off win over the Starfires. Jackson Marshall got Worcester on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run blast.
The teams exchange two-run frames in the fifth with both Dylan LaPointe and Max D’Alessandro ripping RBI singles. It was tied 4-4 through six and a half when the Bravehearts put up three in the seventh on a D’Alessandro RBI double, a Marshall RBI single, and a Max LeFrancois RBI single. After Westfield was able to tie it again in the top of the ninth WooBall went to work, with LeFrancois’ bases-loaded single knocking in the winning run.
Marshall was named the FCBL’s Player of the Night for his efforts.
