ECHL rulebook has some minor changes for the 2025-26 season

The ECHL released its new rulebook on Wednesday, and a couple of minor changes were made.

The first was Rule 9.5 – Protective Equipment, which adds a game misconduct for a player returning to the ice without wearing, or not wearing properly, A5-rated cut-proof socks, wrist protection, and/or neck protection after being warned by an official, with an additional $100 fine. If, during the course of play, a piece of cut-resistant equipment falls off of a player or becomes unsecured in any fashion, the player may continue to remain on the ice without penalty, but shall correct the equipment issue at the next stoppage of play.

And under Rule 46 – Fighting, the ECHL has removed the automatic game misconduct for a staged fight, instead allowing the referee(s) to call such penalties as they see fit, and then they must report the altercation for possible supplementary discipline under Rule 28.

Other than those two, there doesn’t appear to be any changes to the league’s rule set.
