Last Thursday The Futures Collegiate Baseball League released their summer schedule for the 2019 season. In their ninth year, the FCBL season will begin on Wednesday, May 29. The Bravehearts open their schedule the next night in a tilt with the Nashua Silver Knights.

There are some changes in the league from last season, with the FCBL Commissioner Chris Hall resigning and co-champion Martha’s Vineyard Sharks leaving for the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Hall has been replaced on an interim basis by FCBL Board of Directors Chairman and Bravehearts owner John Creedon, Jr. while a search for a permanent commissioner continues. An expansion team in Westfield, Massachusetts will become the league’s seventh team in 2019. A nickname and logo for the Westfield entry, along with what location they’ll be playing in, will be announced soon.

The FCBL is playing a 56 game schedule in 2019, split evenly between home and away games. For Worcester, they’ll play North Shore and Westfield ten times, five home and five away. They’ll take the other teams nine times each, playing five home games against Brockton and Nashua and four home dates with Bristol and Pittsfield.

The league will take a break for its All-Star game from Monday, July 15 to Wednesday July 17, with the game scheduled to be played on the 16th in Pittsfield. It’s the second time the Suns will host the game. They also hosted the 2013 game that featured the Massachusetts All-Stars against the New England All-Stars.

From the FCBL schedule press release, the playoffs will include the top six teams. The top two teams will each have a bye in round one. The next four teams with the best overall records will play in single elimination games. The games will have the #3 vs #6 seed and the #4 vs #5 seed. the semi-finals will feature a 3-game series between the league’s #1 seed and the lowest remaining seed from round one, while the league’s #2 seed will match up against the highest remaining seed from round one. The Futures League championship will be determined by a final 3-game series between the two winners of the semi-final round.

As the Bravehearts have done in the past, all Friday home game will have post game fireworks. There will also be fireworks after the game on Saturday, July 20th.

There are three home days with morning start times, with the Bravehearts hosting school groups on June 5th and 6th with 10:30am starts. They will also have their annual “Camp Day” on July 10th with the same 10:30am start. Having been to a couple of the “Camp Day” games they are incredible fun, but bring lots of sun block.
