The Worcester Railers closed out their 2019 with a game on The Rock against the Newfoundland Growlers and things were looking good for the Railers with their two goal third period lead, but two late goals in the frame by the Growlers got the game to overtime where a final Newfoundland goal sent Worcester home 4-3 losers.
Drew Callin had two goals for the Railers, with Bo Brauer assisting on both of them.
With it being a holiday we’ll once again go old school and link to the Railers game story for the particulars. Newfoundland doesn’t have a story up, or we’d have linked to that too.
Bill Ballou made the trip for the Telegram and has his point of view of the contest along with a nice feature on Worcester forward Nic Pierog.
Railers Public Relations & Social Media Coordinator Cam McGuire tweeted out the Railers goals and Dante Salituro’s and Callin’s first, which came a franchise record 15 seconds apart, are certainly worthy of a view.
GAME NOTES
Scratches for the Railers were JD Dudek (unknown injury), Tanner Pond (14-day IR/upper), and Kyle McKenzie (unknown injury). Ian Milosz was the back-up goaltender.
As if four games in five days in two countries weren’t enough, this killer portion of the Railers schedule continues with more travel. They fly from Newfoundland to Toronto and then on to Boston today, and then tomorrow after a morning practice will buss to Reading for a pair of games there Friday and Saturday against the Royals. Then it’s back on the bus for a mad dash to Worcester to face Jacksonville at the DCU Center Sunday.
The three stars of the game were
1. NFL – 10 Zach O’Brien
2. NFL – 26 Aaron Luchuk
3. WOR – 34 Evan Buitenhuis
