Worcester Railers win preseason opener 5-3 in Maine

The Worcester Railers finally took the ice for the first time since March of 2020 in a preseason match-up against the Maine Mariners, and behind two goals from Ross Olsson and both Drew Callin and Nolan Vesey chipping in a goal and an assist defeated the Mariners 5-3 at The Colisee in Lewiston, Maine. Justin Kapelmaster made 16 saves on 17 shots in 25:30 minutes of play, Corbin Kaczperski made 19 saves on 21 shots in relief in 30:20 minutes of play and also recorded an assist.

With no local radio and the game not on FloSports we’ll just take a look at some of the Twitter highlights posted by the radio voice of the Worcester Railers, Cam McGuire.

Cam also got some post-game comments from Olsson.

The Railers lines, courtesy of the Railers, were:
Nolan Vesey / Jacob Hayhurst / Grant Jozefek
Jake Coleman / Liam Coughlin / Ross Olsson
Neil Robinson / Brent Beaudoin / Drew Callin
Canon Pieper / JD Dudek / Tyler Poulsen

Nick Albano / Connor McCarthy
Charlie Spetz / Myles McGurty
Bryce Martin / John Furgele

Those interested in reading about the game can check out the story on the Railers site. The Lewiston Sun Journal has a “staff report” that looks like the Mariners wrote, which includes a few game photos.

The two teams meet again in a preseason finale Saturday night at 6:30 at the Worcester Ice Center. There is no cost to attend, however, contributions of $10 per entry are encouraged to benefit Jake Thibeault, a local high school hockey player who recently suffered a severe spinal cord injury.
