WooSox Rewind: Worcester playing out string after 2-4 series vs RailRiders

The Worcester Red Sox went into last week’s six-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders needing a sweep and a lot of help to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, and they got neither as the WooSox went just 2-4 against the AAA affiliate of the New York Yankees and now find themselves further behind first-place Durham than when the week started.

Mathematically Worcester is still alive for the International League East Division crown, but with four teams between them and the Bulls in the top spot all the WooSox are playing for over their final ten games is pride.

RailersRiders 5, WooSox 4
LP: Darwinzon Hernandez (0-2)
Big hits:
Christin Stewart 1st inning two-run single and Johan Mieses 1st inning RBI single

Ronaldo Hernández 5th inning solo homer

What went wrong: 8th inning blown save doomed the WooSox

RailersRiders 4, WooSox 1
LP: Connor Seabold (8-2)
Big hits:
Johan Mieses 4th inning RBI single

What went wrong: One run isn’t going to cut it even with Seabold pitching.

WooSox 5, RailRiders 3
WP: Victor Santos (2-4); S: Andrew Politi (2)
Big hits:
Nick Sogard 5th inning two-run single

Unsung heroes:

RailersRiders 8, WooSox 2
LP: Chris Murphy (3-6)

What went wrong: Another crooked number inning against early and it was all over.

LP: Geoff Hartlieb (3-6)
Big hits:
Bobby Dalbec 1st inning solo home run

Dalbec 3rd inning two-run blast
