The Worcester Railers were scheduled to make a trip north to Portland, Maine for a Sunday matinee against the Mariners, but apparently goaltender Ken Appleby was the only player who bothered to show up as Worcester was blanked 1-0.
Appleby’s 37-save performance was absolutely wasted by his teammates, who played with no sense of urgency and looked completely disinterested for huge parts of the game. Other than Appleby they all mailed it in today, so this writer will do the same.
Here’s the Maine goal, which was on the power play with Billy Jerry in the penalty box for high-sticking. It was the fifth time this season he was in the penalty box when a power play goal was scored against Worcester, which leads the team in that dubious category.
