After a rainout in Norwich on Monday, Worcester hosted the Sea Unicorns for a pair on Tuesday, with the Bravehearts losing the opener 6-1 but winning the nightcap 10-4.
WooBall’s lone run in game one, which was a makeup game for last week’s rainout, was in the fifth inning on a Jordan Luna RBI single. Cade Centracchio had two of Worcester’s four hits in the contest.
Game two saw the Bravehearts fall behind 4-0 after two and a half innings, but they came storming back to tie in the bottom of the third on a bases-loaded double by Jack Murray, who then scored on a wild pitch.
Hunter St. Denis started the scoring in the six-run fourth with a two-run single to center. Two batters later, Dylan Prince tripled to score two runs, and Price would then score on Andrew Schmit‘s single. WooBall would then load the bases and get their tenth run of the game on a Jake Yang walk.
Jake Schoenberg earned the win in relief, with Mitchell Hwang striking out all three batters he faced on 12 pitches.
The Nashua Silver Knights were the visitors to Fitton Field Wednesday night, and Bravehearts starter Stephen Rickert was the difference as he threw six shutout innings while allowing just three hits in WooBall’s 6-2 victory.
Mason Bordelon‘s third-inning double scored two, with Bordelon eventually scoring on Andrew Schmit‘s sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, Cade Centracchio tripled, scoring two more. In the fourth, a Will Kraemer sacrifice fly capped the scoring for the Bravehearts.
It was off to Westfield on Thursday for Worcester, and once again, they got some great starting pitching as Davis Kahn went seven innings, allowing just a single run on five hits to lead WooBall to a 4-1 win. Kyle McLaughlin picked up the save with two hitless innings, striking out four.
A Jacob Malfant infield single and an error scored Worcester’s first run of the game in the third. Tied 1-1 in the fifth, WooBall took the lead on an infield groundout. Jordan Luna‘s sacrifice fly would add an insurance run in the seventh, and Worcester added a fourth run on more bad defense from the Starfires.
The expansion Lowell Spinners were at Fitton Field Friday night to take on the Bravehearts, and after falling behind by a couple of runs, Worcester came back with a Cordell Clinkingbeard grand slam in the seventh to take the game 4-2. Clinkingbeard was named the FCBL “Player of the Night”.
Jeremy Krendel earned the win with two and two-thirds innings of relief, striking out five. Mitchell Hwang got the save with a 1-2-3 ninth frame.
It was off to Walker Memorial Grandstand in Springfield on Sunday, where the Bravehearts took on the Westfield Starfires, where one bad inning turned a laugher into a bit of a nailbiter as Worcester held on for the 11-8 victory. Starter Jake Shaughnessy got the win, allowing just one hit and two runs in six and two-thirds innings.
WooBall got on the board in the top of the first on an RBI single by Julian Mercado and a bases-loaded walk by Jack Murray. In the fourth, Jake Yang‘s two-run blast to left made it 4-0. Mercado tacked on a two-run shot of his own in the fifth for a 6-0 lead. John Ramsey added the extra point in the seventh, and it looked like it was going to be smooth sailing for the Bravehearts.
Westfield grabbed two in the seventh, but WooBall answered with three in the eighth on Mason Bordelon‘s two-run single and a Ramsey bases-loaded walk. The Starfires made it interesting by putting up six in the home half of the eighth, but Bordelon’s ninth-frame RBI single capped the scoring for both clubs.
