Worcester started the week on Monday with a trip to Lowell, and the Bravehearts had as many runs in the top of the first, three, as the Spinners had hits all game in WooBall’s 10-0 seven-inning mercy-shortened win. Joey Hagen earned the win with a 5.2-inning start, allowing a single hit while striking out eight. He was named the Futures League’s “Pitcher of the Night”.
The Bravehearts scored their first run in the top of the first on some poor Lowell defense, and then Joey Benoit‘s double plated two more. In the third, Alan Carpenter made it 4-0 with an RBI single.
In the fourth, Worcester scored two runs on Chris Mondesir‘s single, another on a passed ball, a third on an infield error, and a fourth on a Benoit RBI single. WooBall would make it ten runs with a run on an infield error in the seventh.
New Britain headed to Fitton Field on Tuesday night, and while Worcester came out of the gates quickly, they couldn’t keep it going in the late innings and ended up on the wrong side of a 10-6 final.
WooBall took a 2-1 lead after one on a Jeylem Sepulveda two-run double. In the second, both Jake Yang and Hunter St. Denis had RBI singles to make it 4-1. The Bees had eight runs before the Bravehearts scored again, on an infield ground out. In the eighth, Jack Murray walked with the bases loaded for Worcester’s sixth run.
Worcester had Wednesday off, which was just as well, as the entire FCBL schedule was canceled due to the torrential rains, and the conditions at Fitton Field were still not suitable for playing on Thursday, so the Bravehearts game against Westfield scheduled for that night was also canceled.
It was off to Norwich Friday for WooBall, and based on the outcome, the Bravehearts were probably unhappy that game wasn’t canceled as they gave up a crooked-number fourth inning on their way to an 8-4 loss.
The Bravehearts took a brief 2-1 lead in the fourth on a two-run single by Cade Centracchio. Late-inning RBI singles from Jake Yang and Chris Mondesir accounted for the other two WooBall runs.
After an off day on Saturday, Worcester headed to New Britain for a pair against the Bees, and probably should have just stayed home as they were swept, losing the opener 5-1 and then getting buried in the second game 8-1.
The Bravehearts’ game one run came on a James Anastasopoulos seventh-inning RBI single. In the second game, Brayden Lewis had the RBI single.
