2000 3-3 exhibition tie vs Hartford (Wallace Civic Center, Fitchburg, MA)
The Worcester IceCats got a game-tying five on three power play goal from defenseman Jason Ialongo to deadlock the defending Calder Cup champion Hartford Wolf Pack 3-3. The ‘Cats opened the scoring on the power-play when Lars Pettersen collected a rebound of a Mark Rycroft’s shot and knocked it past Pack netminder Jason Labarbera at 6:07. Richard Scott later would tie it for Hartford. Justin Papineau made it 2-1 at 5:05 when he banged home a rebound of Didier Tremblay’s point shot. Mathieu Benoit tied the game for the Pack, and Francois Fortier gave them the lead in the third period. Stephen Wagner, who never played a regular season AHL in his career, went the distance for the ‘Cats in net. [210Sports note: There was a Zamboni malfunction during the first intermission that delayed the game almost 30 minutes.]
2001 7-1 exhibition win vs Hartford (Wallace Civic Center, Fitchburg, MA)
The Worcester IceCats got goals from seven different players in a 7-1 routing of the Wolf Pack in preseason play. Brad Voth opened the scoring for the ‘Cats just 1:04 into the contest, assisted by Tyler Rennette and Lauri Kinos. Trevor Baker made it 2-0 after one period with Mike Van Ryn and Darren Clarke providing the helpers. In the second period Mike Lee scored on the power play at 7:52 with Kevin Cloutier and Barret Jackman providing the assists. Igor Valeev added a shorthanded goal, assisted by Rennette and Clarke, at 17:15 to make it 4-0 after two frames. In the third Rennette made it 5-0 at 4:11, with Lee and Marc Brown assisting. Jason Dawe had Hartford’s lone goal at 13:37 on the power play, and then Cloutier made it the 7-1 final unassisted at 16:15. Cody Rudkowsky earned the win saving all 12 shots he faced in 29:54 of action. Scott Stirling relieved him in goal and made 16 saves on 17 shots.
2009 4-1 exhibition loss at Hartford (Trinity College, Hartford, CT)
The Worcester Sharks dressed just Michael Wilson and Matt Jones from all their returning players in camp, and it showed in a 4-1 loss to the Wolf Pack. Evgeni Saidachev scored for the WorSharks with 2 seconds left in the game. Hartford got two goals from Derek Couture and one apiece from Andrew Carroll and Chris Chappell. Adam Russo was in goal for Worcester.
