Over on the 210Sports Facebook page I’ve been posting daily updates for each day in Worcester hockey history. In case people missed some, I’ll gather them at the end of each month here on the blog.

2000 – Curtis Sanford signed as a free agent by St. Louis.
2008 – Andrew Desjardins signed as a free agent by the Worcester Sharks.
2011 – The Worcester Sharks announced their games will be broadcast live on NewsTalk 580AM and 94.9 WTAG-FM through the 2013-14 season.
2018 – Worcester Railers sign Evan Buitenhuis.

1995 – Paul Broten traded to St. Louis by Dallas for Guy Carbonneau. Justin Hocking claimed by Ottawa from Los Angeles in Waiver Draft. Fred Knipscheer traded to St. Louis by Boston for Rick Zombo.
2009 – Dennis McCauley signed to an SPC by the Worcester Sharks.
2013 – Worcester Sharks named Charlie Townsend video coaching assistant
2017 – Worcester Railers sign Connor Doherty and Mitch Gillam.

1997 – Lubos Bartecko signed as a free agent by St. Louis.
2017 – The Bridgeport Sound Tigers sign Yanick Turcotte.

2001 – The Worcester IceCats and SMG jointly announced that the IceCats’ current lease was been rewritten and extended for two years. It was supposed to go until the end of the 2005-06 season.
2012 – The Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame announced the selection of Ed “Butch” Songin, who played one game for the Worcester Warriors during the 1954–55 season.

1987 – The US Hockey Hall of Fame selected Jack Kirrane for inclusion. He played for the Worcester Warriors in the 1954-55 season.

1998 – Worcester IceCats right-wing Shayne Toporowski was suspended for two games by the AHL for attempting to injure an opponent during Sunday’s 1-0 win at New Haven.
2006 – Worcester Sharks signed Tom Walsh to an AHL contract and Justin Kurtz to a PTO.

1992 – Former Clarkson and Boston College head coach Len Ceglarski was inducted in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. Ceglarski played three games for the Worcester Warriors in the 1954-55 season.

2004 – The Worcester IceCats’ Mike Glumac was awarded the 2003-04 InterContinental Hotels Group Ironman Award, given annually to a member of the Professional Hockey Players’ Association in the AHL who played in all of his team’s games and contributed both offensively and defensively.

1994 – The Worcester IceCats received Jim Bermingham and Terry Virtue from the Atlanta Knights in exchange for Yves Heroux and Brian Straub. They also received Mark Ouimet, Mark Osieki, and David Haas from the Detroit Vipers in exchange for future considerations.
2000 – The St. Louis Blues announced they signed Reed Low, Derek Bekar, and Justin Papineau to multi-year contracts.

1954 – John “Hans” Marsden named coach of the Worcester Warriors.
1997 – The Worcester IceCats launch their first ever website, worcestericecats(dot)com .
2012 – Matt Pelech was suspended four games by the AHL after receiving a game misconduct for leaving the team bench for the purpose of starting an altercation on Oct. 20 against the Albany Devils.

1994 – Defenseman Mark Osieki, acquired by the Worcester IceCats from the IHL’s Detroit Vipers, was suspended indefinitely by the IceCats for refusing to report to Worcester. (He subsequently retired.)
2002 – Cody Rudkowsky made his NHL debut and recorded his first win in the St Louis Blues 2-1 Win vs the Edmonton Oilers. Rudkowsky replaced injured starter Curtis Sanford and it was Rudkowsky’s only NHL appearance. That season he became the first goaltender to win a game in the NHL, AHL, and ECHL in the same season.

1996 – Rory Fitzpatrick and Craig Conroy traded to St. Louis by Montreal with Pierre Turgeon for Murray Baron, Shayne Corson, and St. Louis’ 5th round choice in 1997 Entry Draft.
2004 – First mention in the Telegram that St. Louis planed to sell Worcester IceCats. That would eventually lead to the IceCats relocating to Peoria after the season.
